National Cultural Commission

Papua New Guinea National Cultural Commission is one of the cultural agencies under the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture. The National Cultural Commission is mandated by the Government in 1994 to carry out is primary objective to assist, facilitate, preserve, protect, develop, promote and safeguard the traditional cultures of the indigenous people of Papua New Guinea

The National Cultural Commission has been elevated to the economic sector with a whooping annual funding support of K45 million.
This shift was announced by the Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture, Isi Henry Leonard, during the launch of the National Cultural Policy 2022 – 2032 last Friday at APEC Haus in Port Moresby.


National Film Institute

The National Film Institute (NFI), is a semi-autonomous institution, funded by the state and administered by the National Cultural Commission of Papua New Guinea. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 1994, when it effectively replaced the former Skul Bilong Wokim Piksa (SBWP).

Native Arts and Fashion Academy

Native Arts and Fashion Academy was formed on the 15th of August 2017 as a development initiative of COLE.Ltd. It endeavours to promote Arts and Fashion in Papua New Guinea while embracing PNG’s cultural traditions. In other words, NAFA provides a platform for youngsters to progress their careers responsibly in the field of Arts and Fashion.

Under Native Arts and Fashion Academy, there is a school of Music called Music Masters of PNG (MMPNG), Paradise Dance Academy (PDA) for dancing, Gejah Academy of Multiple Martial Arts (GAMMA) that focuses on mastering the art of Taekwondo & Boxing and the mother of all art forms Native Arts and Fashion Academy whose primary role is in Fashion designing, Modelling and photography category.

PNG Academy Award Secretariat

The PNG Academy Award Secretariat stands as the committee in the private public partnership between National Culture Commission and Native Arts & Fashion Academy.

PNG Academy Award Secretariat has been formed for the purpose of supporting and facilitating Academy Award Selection Committee platform with their selection procedures under the leadership of Mr David Taim as its chairman along with his vibrant team representatives from National Cultural Commission as well as Native Arts and Fashion Academy. The Secretariat will be the office bearers which facilitates all the internal correspondences with regard to the awarding system by acting as the backbone of the PNG Academy Award Selection Committee.To strengthen the functions at PNG Academy Award Secretariat and to support the PNG Academy Award Selection Committee , the National Cultural Commission has recently signed a Memorandum of Understand with Native Arts and Fashion Academy to recognise and award talents in Papua New Guinea and to promote Papua New Guinea films in international film festivals and simliar platforms being NAFA as permanent member of the PNG Academy Award Secretariat.
